  • Next for Manolith: a Cubs timeline

Posted on May 11th, 2009 Will No comments

Working on the next timeline for Manolith with Dan Z, in a genre that is right in his wheelhouse – baseball history. Specifically, the tragicomedy known as the Chicago Cubs. Lots of great stuff to mine, the trouble will be editing stuff out. For example:

Collection of Baseball Cards from the Library of Congress, 1887-1914
For example, here are the cards for the classic double-play combo of Tinker, Evers and Chance.

    Tinker Evers Chance

And the fearsome Mordecai “three-finger” Brown:

    card back

A big part of the fun will be trying to connote the typography and design of this era. Of course, the living master of this type of design is Chicago’s own Chris Ware, whose altar I would kneel at daily, if such an altar existed and I was the kneeling type.
